Week of August 4, 2026

An Army Corps dredging vehicle in Texas opens a multi-year bench seat while the set-aside decision is still open, five sole-source intents close within days, and year-end obligation season begins.

If your capability statement is not already sitting with the contracting officers who buy what you sell, this is the week to fix that. The federal fiscal year ends Sep 30, 2026, and the closing weeks are when contracting officers move to obligate money that expires if they do not.

Two consequences show up in this week's notices.

Response windows compress. Five sole-source intents posted this week all close Aug 5, 2026, which leaves anyone who wanted to contest one a matter of days. An intent notice is not an award, and it is contestable before one is made. But contesting it requires seeing it in time, and a week is the practical limit of how much warning these carry.

Sole-source becomes the fastest instrument on the table. There were 14 sole-source notices this week against 11 the week before. For a contracting officer holding money and a September deadline, an 8(a) sole-source award is the shortest distance between a requirement and a signed contract.

What that means for you: the firms that win year-end work are the ones the buying office already knows. Between now and Sep 30, 2026 the award moves faster than an introduction does.

THE ONE TO WATCH
The Army Corps is standing up a multiple-award vehicle for dredged-material placement across Texas, and it is still at sources-sought stage, which means a multi-year bench seat where the set-aside decision has not been made yet.
